WARTBURG (WATE) -- Authorities have captured an inmate Tuesday about 24 hours after he walked away from a work crew in Morgan County. They also captured a woman believed to be his accomplice.

Josey Tee Jenkins, 29, was caught at a motel in Birmingham, Alabama Tuesday morning.

Jenkins is being held at an Alabama facility awaiting extradition to Tennessee where he'll be charged with escape.

He was serving a 16 year sentence for aggravated robbery and forgery at the Morgan County Correctional Complex in Wartburg.

Jenkins was with a work crew at Lancing Presbyterian Church on Highway 62 when he escaped Monday morning.

Jenkins was convicted in Loudon County. He'd been in state custody since October 2000 and was due to be released in 2014.

Officials say Daphanie Carty, 34, of Bluff City, is charged with permitting and facilitating an escape, criminal conspiracy and criminal responsibility for the conduct of another.

Carty is also being held in an Alabama jail awaiting extradition to Tennessee.
