Former UT basketball player arrested on drug charges

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Former UT basketball player Michael Bryant Brooks was arrested Tuesday night on drug charges and outstanding warrants.

Brooks, 47, was stopped for speeding by Knoxville police on Winston Road Tuesday at 8:35 p.m.

A records check showed Brooks had three outstanding warrants in Knox County.

Police say during a search of Brooks' car, they found a plastic bag with 11.5 grams of a white, powder substance believed to be cocaine.

Officers also found a bottle with pills identified as hydrocodone.

Brooks is charged with manufacturing, delivery or possession of a narcotic, as well as simple possession.

He played for UT in the 1980s.
