State comptroller: investigation of Sevier Co. garage use continues

Posted: Updated:

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) -- The state comptrollers office says its audit of issues involving use of the Sevier County solid waste garage by officials continues.

Last week, Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters told 6 News the allegations had already been investigated by state auditors who found nothing wrong.

Waters and his uncle, Jack Waters, the solid waste director, are accused of having work done on relatives' vehicles, as well as their own, at the garage.

The comptroller's office said it began receiving several complaints about Mayor Waters in May 2008 on its fraud, waste and abuse hotline. This investigation followed.

TBI officials say the investigation the bureau began last week of work at the garage also continues and hasn't been turned over yet to the district attorney general.
