Judge allows appeal of exhumation request in Dossett murder investigation

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- The fight to exhume the body of former Knox County District Attorney Ed Dossett is not over.

Judge Richard Baumgartner ruled Tuesday that the state can take the issue to an appeals court.

Four previous requests to exhume Dossett's body have been denied.

Prosecutors believe the exhumation could prove that Raynella Leath poisoned her former husband in 1992.

They say a new autopsy is needed to prove their case.

Leath is also charged with killing her second husband, David Leath. That case ended with a hung jury in March.
