Report of racially motivated house fire leads to 2 arrests

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- A man and woman were arrested Tuesday for reporting that a house fire in East Knoxville was racially motivated. Investigators later ruled it accidental and non-racial.

Officials say the pair are Justin Michael Kingsbury, 19, and Angela Michelle Majors, 22, who's lived at the house for two months. (No mug shot of Majors is available.)

The fire at 1620 Henrietta Avenue Tuesday morning damaged a front bedroom before firefighters extinguished it. No one was injured.

Kingsbury and Majors are charged with falsifying information. He's facing a class C felony and she's facing a class E felony.

Investigators say Majors claimed the fire was racially motivated when she called to report it.

She said she and her two children ran across the street to a neighbor's house where she made the call after they were awakened by an alarm.
