Man suspected in motel robberies in Powell, Lake City

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Officers are looking for a man who robbed a motel in Powell early Thursday morning and may have robbed a motel in Lake City a few hours later.

Powell robbery

Investigators say the barefoot man was armed with a tire iron when he entered the Country Inn and Suites at 7534 Conner Road around 6:20 a.m. Thursday.

The man jumped over the counter and demanded money.

After a struggle, the suspect got away on foot with about $200. The clerk wasn't injured.

The suspect is described as about 5'11", 180 pounds and appearing to be in his early 30s.

He wore grey sweat pants and a white T-shirt with a picture or drawing on it.

Lake City robbery

A few hours later in the next county over, Lake City police say a Days Inn motel was robbed by a man with the same description as in Powell. 

The man entered the motel at 10:20 a.m. and fought with the clerk, grabbing her by the hair as he demanded money. He got away with an undetermined amount. The clerk wasn't injured.

The suspect left in a teal colored car believed to be a Toyota.
