Feeling at tailgates different than years past

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- At the season opener, Vols fans were thrilled about the new season, new blood, and new coach.

They say they are ready for a new era in Tennessee football.

"There is nothing like tailgating here. It's fantastic," said Ann Hotchkiss.

She's part of the Orange Nation which is teeming with energy this season opener.

"There is more excitement this year than this time last year. Last year everybody was just kind of thinking it was going to be another year just like the year before," shared fan Adam Luttrell.

"It's a bit different. There is more of a sense of change and I guess excitement," added Chris Robinson.

The unknown is fueling the excitement. Fans can't wait to see what the Vols can do under the reign of Lane and Monte Kiffin and with new players like Bryce Brown.

"With this new coaching staff, we are bringing in new type of recruits and not the same old same old like it's been last fifteen years," said Luttrell.

Fans say while they realize it'll take time to turn the team around and they'll stick with them win or lose, the Vols owe them a strong season.

"We have the greatest fans in the country and it's a fantastic venue for football," said Hotchkiss. "I am so full of hope and optimism. I hope Kiffin does well."

Fans say the next big event on their minds is the game versus UCLA.
