KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Knoxville police are investigating a shooting that killed one man and wounded another in the Western Heights subdivision late Tuesday night.

Christopher McBath, 26, died shortly after he was taken to UT Medical Center.

The other victim is Richard Westfield, 30, who was also taken to UT with a wound to his leg.

According to police, the men were shot at an apartment at 1235 Better Tomorrow Drive around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said McBath and Westfield were sitting on the front porch of an apartment when three black men dressed in all black approached them and opened fire.

They believe the victims and suspects knew each other.

"At this time, we believe we have a good idea of what happened prior to the shooting and the events that lead up to the shooting. It's something that we're trying to confirm through additional interviews and, obviously, the evidence we recovered from the scene," said police spokesman Darrell DeBusk.

Investigators have also interviewed some witnesses.

If you have any information about this shooting, call the police department's crime hotline at (865)-215-7212.
