NEW TAZEWELL (WATE) -- A New Tazewell man is charged for child rape and growing marijuana, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
William Hence Smith, 45, is charged with one count of child rape and with cultivating marijuana.
The district attorney general asked TBI to open the case after learning the alleged victim was raped about seven years ago.
The TBI opened that investigation of Smith last week.
Information from the case also led investigators to search Smith's home where they found a small indoor marijuana grow operation.
Smith was booked into the Claiborne County Jail on Friday.
