KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- 6 Sports spoke with Knoxville resident and long time SEC official Rocky Goode about the conference reprimand of Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin on Monday.
Coach Kiffin complained that officials failed to penalize Alabama's Terrence Cody for unsportsmanlike conduct when the defensive lineman removed and threw his helmet after blocking a field goal on the last play of Alabama's 12-10 victory.
Goode was at the game and explained the lack of a penalty call like this.
"Taking off a helmet is an unsportsmanlike act. It is a live ball foul. But because there was no time left on the clock, it is administered as a dead ball foul. There was no time left to (assess) a penalty."
Goode also said if there had been time left, it would have been Alabama's ball and the Tide would've been assessed a 15 yard penalty.
"Under no circumstances would there have been an opportunity for a (Tennessee) replay," Goode said.
If Kiffin violates SEC policies again, he'll be subject to additional penalties, including suspension.
