KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- It's a well known fact that Cross Park Drive in West Knox County floods practically every time there's a heavy rain.
This map shows Cross Park Drive:
On Tuesday, the first step toward fixing the problem begins and Cross Park Drive will be closed just west of its intersection with Corporate Drive for a drainage project.
Crews worked on underground phone lines Monday in preparation for the project.
"I think they need to do something. I am sure it will inconvenience some people in the short term, but in the long term it will be worth it," said one driver, Vanessa Delamain.
The Cedar Bluff Library branch sits right on Cross Park Drive and employees welcome the repairs.
"When it floods, cars get stuck in the roads and we have even had to close on occasion because of the flooding," said senior branch assistant James Mauk.
Everyone is confident that the flooding scenes will be a thing of the past once the final project is complete.
The road is expected to be closed for at least one week.
The library will still be accessible. Drivers can go down Executive Drive to Corporate Drive and come out right at the library's driveway.
