MORRISTOWN (WATE) -- A Morristown man has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless homicide for sharing his prescription medication with another man who died.

William Bradley Mefford, 35, entered his plea on October 29. He now faces a six year jail sentence. He'll be eligible for parole after he serves 35 percent of that time.

The victim, John Carpenter, was found not breathing by police in June 2008 at the Days Inn at 2512 East Andrew Johnson Highway.

Carpenter was taken to Morristown Hamblen Hospital and pronounced dead.

Police said Mefford had been sharing his prescription oxycodone with Carpenter and others at  the motel.

Mefford was originally facing a charge of second degree murder.
