BEAN STATION (WATE) -- A Morristown man drowned Wednesday morning in a single boat accident on Cherokee Lake, according to the TWRA.
Published reports identify the victim as Lester R. Lawson, 60.
The accident happened at 10:50 a.m. near the Highway 25E bridge and Lakeside Marina.
This part of the lake is on the Hamblen County - Grainger County line.
Eyewitnesses told officers they saw Lawson's 14 foot aluminum fishing boat sinking, but by the time another man reached him, it was too late.
The boat sunk in 60-80 feet of water.
Lawson's body was recovered from the lake shortly after rescue units arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene and wasn't wearing a life jacket.
The TWRA said a coroner ruled Lawson's cause of death as drowning.
The accident is under investigation.
