KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- A Knoxville bookstore is one of 200 stores that are expected to be closed by Borders Group Inc., the bookstore chain said Thursday.
The Waldenbooks store in Knoxville Center Mall is on the list of stores Border says will be closed as the company attempts to boost profitability.
A Waldenbooks store in Kingsport is the only other store on the list of stores Borders plans to close.
Most of the stores, including the one in Knoxville, are small-format Waldenbooks stores.
They stores will close in January and cut 1,500 jobs as Borders focuses on its more profitable superstores.
Borders has been slowly closing Waldenbooks since it gook over the rival chain, but officials said 130 stores will remain open.
Barnes&Noble, Borders' chief rival, said last month it plans to close the last of its B. Dalton stores by the end of January.
