Knox Co. sheriff's officer resigns after ID theft arrest

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- A patrol officer with the Knox County Sheriff's Office resigned Wednesday after she was arrested on ID theft and forgery charges.

Michelle Stiles, 38, resigned on Wednesday morning. She was arrested by Knoxville police.

Stiles was released from the Knox County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

The sheriff's office opened an internal affairs investigation of Stiles and cooperated with police in the investigation.

Stiles had been with the sheriff's office since August 2008.

She also previously worked for the sheriff's office from 1994 to 1999.
