CHATTANOOGA (AP) -- The Tennessee Valley Authority's Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in north Alabama has a fire response problem that could lead to a Nuclear Regulatory Commission civil penalty.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that an NRC letter to TVA says inspectors this year found that the plant near Athens, Ala., potentially violated four safety standards.
TVA spokesman Craig Beasley said the plant is working with regulators to address their concerns.
NRC officials said the deficiencies do not pose any immediate safety risk.
Inspectors identified inadequate fire response procedure and inadequate emergency lighting at the plant that had a fire in 1975.
NRC spokesman Roger Hannah said details will be released in December and there could be a civil penalty.
