Maryville man charged for indoor marijuana grow operation

MARYVILLE (WATE) -- A man was arrested Monday after investigators found an indoor marijuana grow in his Maryville home.

Michael Eugene Smith, 38, was charged with manufacture of a marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Investigators with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force and the Loudon County Sheriff's Office seized 21 marijuana plants from Smith's home. They found a hydroponic; indoor grow operation with 21 plants.

They also found drug paraphernalia, numerous clippings of marijuana being dried, and ledgers detailing growth of the plants.

Investigators said this marijuana was of a much "higher grade," and could have been sold for as much as several hundred dollars per ounce.

Smith was released from the Blount County Detention Facility on a $26,000 bond on Tuesday.

He's scheduled for a court hearing on November 25.
