MOUNTAIN CITY (WATE) -- The family of a Tennessee soldier killed with 12 others in the shooting spree at Fort Hood is grieving privately.

But Tuesday evening, Army Spec. Frederick Greene's family held visitation in Mountain City.

The visitation started at 4:00 p.m., but people were in front of the funeral home as early as 10:00 a.m. to pay their respects to the fallen soldier.

Hundreds of flags lined nearly every inch of the tiny town of Mountain City, a community in pain over Greene's loss.

"It is a great loss to this community losing somebody like that," says long-time friend William Dugger.

Friends say he was one of a kind. He'd make you laugh, and he always meant everything he said.

"He was a great friend and he loved his kids, his wife, and his family to death," Dugger adds.

Members of the Patriot Guard Riders say Greene's story has touched them all.

"He's a young man. It's not so bad with the older people, but it is when young soldiers like this are killed for no reason," explains Patriot Guard Rider Tim Ford.

National Guardsman David Calhoun never had the opportunity to meet the 29-year old solider, but says he was compelled to come out and show his support.

"When I found out there was a local soldier from the Fort Hood massacre, I couldn't handle it," Calhoun says.

Greene will be buried Wednesday morning at 11:00 in the cemetery of the small Baptist church he attended.

His survivors include his wife, two daughters and his parents.
