Marshals discover remains at convict's home in Andersonville

ANDERSONVILLE (WATE) -- When U.S. Marshals tried to arrest an Andersonville man Friday, they found the remains of an unidentified body.

The discovery was at the home of Brad Smith at 355 Lone Mountain Road.

Marshals were attempting to arrest Smith for violating his federal parole, according to Warren Mays with the Marshals Service.

He said officers saw the windows open, looked around, went in and found an extremely decomposed body. They can't determine the gender.

The Marshals called the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and notified Anderson County investigators as well.

The Knox County Bomb Squad was also called as a precaution because Smith’s original conviction in July 2006 was for possession of a bomb. Booby traps had also been discovered on his property.

Smith was released from federal prison in June but never reported to his parole officer.
