KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Budget concerns are expected to be a major issue in the next mayoral election in Knoxville.
Local taxes, state budget impact on the city and downtown revitalization were all hot topics were all hot topics as candidates Bill Haslam and Madeline Rogero met for their first debate Monday night.
"We have to wait and see the impact from the state, but a goal would be not have to raise property taxes here," Haslam says.
"That's what I'll do as mayor. The same thing I did as a county commissioner," Rogero says. "I'll weigh priorities and determine how good a quality of life we can afford."
Madeline Rogero is a former Knox County commissioner, non-profit executive and director of Knoxville's Promise.
Bill Haslam served on the Knoxville Community Development Corporation board, as well as several non-profit organizations. His family founded the Pilot Corporation.
