Republican Mark White sworn into state House

NASHVILLE (AP) -- Rep. Mark White has been sworn into the state House seat vacated by fellow Republican Brian Kelsey.

White was sworn by state Supreme Court Justice Bill Koch in the well of the House chamber on Friday. He was elected to the House District 83 seat after Kelsey was elected to the state Senate.

The district represents part of Shelby County.

White, 59, told the members he had dreamed of becoming a lawmaker ever since first seeing the state Capitol when he was five-years-old.
