Knoxville (WATE) -- Kippy Brown's stay in Knoxville was short.

A source close to Brown has told WATE 6 Sports that the Vols assistant football coach is leaving to take a job with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.

Volquest.com reported on Saturday that offensive line coach James Cregg, and quarterbacks coach David Reaves were dismissed by new Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley.  Reaves is former UT coach Lane Kiffin's brother-in-law.

Brown's departure comes less than 24 hours after Derek Dooley was hired as Tennessee's new football coach. Brown considered himself a legitimate candidate for the Vols' head coaching vacancy.

Brown's 3rd stint as a Vols assistant coach didn't last long. He was hired by former head coach Lane Kiffin on December 17, 2009. He previously coached at Tennessee under Johnny Majors from 1983-1989, and again from 1993-1994.

Brown has extensive experience in the NFL. He's been as assistant coach in Detroit, Houston, Green Bay and Miami.

Brown is a Sweetwater, Tennessee native and played college football at Memphis.
