Texas Christian athletics director Eric Hyman

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Texas Christian athletics director Eric Hyman has taken himself out of the running for filling Doug Dickey's job at UT.
Hyman released a statement Monday afternoon saying he considers Tennessee's athletics director position to be one of the top jobs in the country. But while he says he was flattered to be considered, Hyman says at this time he does not consider the UT job a good fit for him.
Hyman was one of three candidates to interview for the UT athletics director position this past weekend.
University president John Shumaker has said he hoped a job offer could be extended sometime this week, but he's not concerned if the process takes longer.
Hyman's exit is surprising because he was considered by many to be a top contender. He had the backing of the current Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive. He has headed TCU's athletic department for five years.
It is believed the other two candidates interviewed over the weekend are current UT associate AD Mike Hamilton and Wake Forest AD Ron Wellman. Wellman refused comment on the situation with 6 Sports Monday afternoon.
