JOHNSON CITY (AP) - East Tennessee State University's pharmacy college, which graduated its first class in May, is now accredited.
The Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy received notice Monday from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education that the school has received full accreditation.
College Dean Dr. Larry D. Calhoun says it's impossible to overstate how important accreditation is to the school, which began in 2005.
It had operated under candidate status, which it received in 2008.
More than 1,000 people and organizations made financial contributions after Gov. Phil Bredesen endorsed the effort to start the pharmacy college and challenged the community to raise $5 million.
