CHATTANOOGA (AP) - A fire at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Wednesday night involved a 500,000 volt transformer in a switchyard.
The utility says it was extinguished without anyone getting hurt.
A TVA statement said the fire that lasted about 20 minutes at the plant in Soddy-Daisy has been classified as an "unusual event," which is the lowest of four levels of nuclear plant emergencies established by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The transformer was being placed in service following maintenance when the fire started.
The Sequoyah plant has two pressurized water reactors.
At the time, unit 1 was operating at about 85 percent power and unit 2 was at 100 percent power.
The statement said both units continue to operate at the same power levels.
