TAZEWELL (WATE) – Tuesday will be the 16th snow day for students in the Claiborne County school district.

Many of the back roads in the county are still slick and icy.

While parents say they love their kids, they are also ready for them to be back in class.

"I am exhausted. They are bored and have nothing to do. Not even any homework," said Nicole Honeycutt, the mother of four.

"I've been going to work, but my wife is getting pretty tired of it," said parent Tom Cloud.

Even the students are getting pretty frustrated from running out of things to do.

"I play video games and basketball. I'm pretty bored," said Tom's 11-year-old son, Isaiah.

Living in a rural area, parents also have had to get creative about child care. "It's been pretty hard. I've had co-workers bring their children to work," said Cloud.

In addition to more children being brought to work, staff schedules at many offices have also been turned upside down.

"I'm working the night shift now so I'll be home with the kids during the day," said Amy Langley.

Parents say they understand this is all about safety on bad roads, but they are ready for life to return to normal.

"We need these kids back in school," said Honeycutt.

The school district has only 13 snow days built into its calendar, so administrators are trying to figure out ways to make up the time.

One idea being discussed is to increase the school day by 30 minutes. Another option is to extend the school year.
