KNOXVILLE (WATE) - It's been a month since the Henley Bridge closed in downtown Knoxville, but there is still uncertainty among organizations that use the bridge for community events.
Historically, the bridge served as the launching pad for Knoxville's Boomsday celebration and it connected runners from the south waterfront to downtown during the Knoxville marathon and other races.
In April, the Covenant Health Knoxville marathon will use the Gay Street Bridge sidewalk, which means the bridge will still be open to drivers.
The Knoxville Track Club Expo's 10K and 5K has yet to announce a final route, but in May runners will not go over the Gay Street bridge.
Instead one possibility is to start the race at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum heading to Gay Street and toward the Fourth and Gill community in North Knoxville.
For Boomsday and its popular waterfall display, it will be a challenge to recreate the effect. The Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corp. is expected to announce their new plan in a month.
The fireworks show will go on no matter what and it will still be in the area around Neyland Drive along the Tennessee River.
The state says the bridge is expected to be completed by June 30, 2013.
