CHICAGO (WATE) - When Helen Ashe got the idea in 1984 to create a service for the needy in Knoxville, she and her twin sister never imagined it would help them dish on the Oprah Winfrey Show 27 years later.

Helen and her sister, Ellen Turner, told Oprah during a taping of her show on Friday about starting their organization called the Love Kitchen in a small church's basement in 1986.

The kitchen went from serving 22 meals on its first day to more than 2,000 meals each week.

Over eighty percent of these meals are delivered to recipients who are homebound and volunteers are a key part of the service effort.

The kitchen prepares and serves breakfast and lunch. They also distribute emergency food bags and deliver those homebound meals.

The sisters say they don't believe too many cooks spoil the soup. Instead, they say their soup is sweetened by the personal touch of every volunteer.

If you're interested in volunteering, you can fill out an application on the Love Kitchen's website or download one and mail it to:

The Oprah show featuring the sisters has been moved to Thursday, February 17.

Helen and Ellen also talked with Oprah about the Love Kitchen's feature on an upcoming episode of the new ABC series "Secret Millionaire."

Each episode follows one of America's most successful business people for a week as they leave home, keep their identities secret and live in some of America's most impoverished communities. One of their goals is to find the most deserving people in that community.

The Love Kitchen received a portion of $100,000 in recognition of its service. The episode was filmed last summer.

The show is based on the hit United Kingdom series by the same name.

The sisters will be on "Secret Millionaire" when the series starts on Sunday, March 6 at 8:00 p.m.
