KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man is facing charges for shooting a former Knoxville police officer and attorney who served time in prison.

Douglas England, 41, of Knoxville, is charged with attempted first degree murder for allegedly shooting Mike Parker in the head at his home on Rifle Range Road on February 27.

The incident report from the Knox County Sheriff's Office says a woman who spent the night at Parker's house said she woke up when England entered the home.

She also said she and England found Parker slumped in his chair.

Parker was taken to UT Medical Center.

England has a criminal history in Knox County that includes theft, aggravated burglary and various traffic offenses.

England is being held in the Knox County Detention Facility on a $100,000 bond.

Parker left the police department to practice law. He was arrested in 1992 on charges of helping rob a Pizza Hut in Halls. He was convicted two years later, served time in prison and was paroled early.
