PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A former softball coach who vanished with one of his teenage players for nine months pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday in Oregon.

Thirty-nine-year-old Andrew Garver pleaded guilty to taking her across state lines with the intention of having sex with her.

Garver and 15-year-old Michelle "Mimi" Smith disappeared in September 2003 and were discovered last June in Knoxville. [ Garver arrested ]

He faces five years in federal prison, but still faces a variety of state charges too.

Investigators said at the time of her disappearance that Smith willingly left with Garver. But they said by Oregon law she was too young to make such a decision and he did not have permission to take her.
