KNOX COUNTY (WATE) -- Two firefighters were injured and their fire truck totaled Friday afternoon when they swerved off the road to avoid colliding with a pickup truck. Police are hunting for the driver of the pickup truck who fled the crash scene.
The crash happened on E. Emory Road at Homestead Drive in the Halls community.
The firefighters were taken to UT Medical Center.
A car traveling east on Emory was attempting to turn left into a subdivision. The driver of a red F-150 pickup truck decided not to wait behind the car and crossed the double yellow line into the westbound lane. Fire engine 230 was coming head on.
The fire truck swerved off the road, hitting a utility pole and uprooting two trees.
Police say the pickup truck's license plate number is DPW994, but they say that number doesn't match a tag that should be on the truck. It's registered to a 1985 Chevy truck.
Crews had to remove the utility pole.
If you have any information about the pickup truck driver, call the Knox County Sheriff's Office at 215-2444.
