More drug types made exempt from TennCare prescription limits

More drug types made exempt from TennCare prescription limits

October 11, 2005

NASHVILLE (AP) -- It's going to be easier for some TennCare enrollees to get certain drugs.

TennCare officials have added categories of drugs to treat asthma, diabetes and cardiovascular disease to a list exempt from a five-prescription limit for enrollees not considered "medically needy."

The prescription limit had been implemented as part of a TennCare overhaul to save the state money.

The list already covered some diabetic and asthmatic supplies, as well as drugs for cancer, Parkinson's Disease and flu vaccines, among others.

Officials said they are able to add to the exempt list because of cost-saving measures elsewhere in TennCare.
