KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- A tractor trailer accident on I-40 Wednesday night shut down all lanes of the interstate for some time.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. near the James White Parkway exit when a big rig hauling other tractor trailers crashed with a smaller vehicle.

At one point, the truck blocked both sides of I-40.

Twisted metal and broken glass littered a large portion of the interstate forcing fans from the UT basketball game to find another way home.

The crash scene was not cleared until 11:00 p.m.

Two people were taken to UT Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
