State rep. from Maryville acknowledges speeding to Nashville

February 15, 2006

NASHVILLE (AP) -- State Rep. Joe McCord of Maryville has acknowledged speeding for up to an hour en route to Nashville this week.

McCord, a Republican, said he was in a hurry because he was late for a meeting Monday.

His trip on Interstate 40 was videotaped by another motorist, Alan Osburn of Franklin. The tape was shown Tuesday night on WKRN TV in Nashville.

Osburn said McCord came up behind him in a truck at high speed and flashed his lights. He said he noticed the truck had a legislative license plate so he taped McCord driving in order to document what happened.

McCord was not arrested.

He told the station that Osburn is "just wanting to make a statement" by taping him and not others who passed him.
