Park service bans jumping into Little River at the Wye

Park service bans jumping into Little River at the Wye

January 16, 2007

TOWNSEND (WATE) -- The National Park Service says visitors to the Townsend Wye won't be allowed to jump from the bluffs into the Little River, starting this spring.

Increasing crowds at the site that's popular for swimming, inner tubing and sunbathing are the reason for the new rule.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park will put language in its federal regulations this spring so the new rule can be enforced legally.

Visitors at the Wye will also find signs about the new policy.
