ATHENS, TENN (AP) -- A Niota woman died after falling off the trunk of a moving car. The district attorney now wants the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to help find out what happened.
Alicia Smith struck her head on the roadway while riding on the trunk Tuesday night. McMinn County investigators worked the accident. District Attorney General Steve Bebb asked the TBI to assist. After the accident, Smith was taken by helicopter to University of Tennessee Medical Center. A friend said he and Smith hitched a ride with a driver in a black Honda Civic, but Smith rode on the back of the trunk. When Smith fell, the driver drove away. The identity of the driver was unknown.Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
