Comedy Zone fire forces hypnotized show-goers to evacuate

August 23, 2007

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Nearly 200 hundred people were forced to evacuate a West Knoxville comedy club after a fire broke out Thursday night.

The fire started in a building attached to the back of the Comedy Zone around 9:00 p.m. Thursday.

A hypnotist was performing for a packed house with around 180 people inside the building for the performance.

There were actually 10 people hypnotized on the stage when the fire broke out.

Fire crews were able to put the fire out quickly and the building suffered some minor smoke damage.

While the show was called off Thursday, the Comedy Zone will be open for normal business the rest of the week.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
