Oak Ridge girl dies after being run over by school bus

Posted: Updated:

OAK RIDGE (WATE) -- An Oak Ridge middle school student passed away Sunday, two days after she was run over by a school bus.

Ashley Paine, 12, attended Robertsville Middle School and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.

"She just loved life," said Pastor Steve McDonald.

Fellow youth group members says they are still in shock over the death of their friend.

"When you're unified as a youth group and when one branch gets taken off it just affects everybody," said Kelli Hansen.

The incident happened Friday at the intersection of Illinois Avenue and the Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Police say Paine was riding her bike home from school when she somehow fell off and landed in the path of a school bus.

Paine was hit by the rear tires and suffered critical head injuries.

A fund has been established for the Paine family to help with incurring costs as a result of the tragedy.  Donations can be mailed to the Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.

Funeral arranagements are pending.
