KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Knoxville police arrest a man suspected of shooting a red light camera multiple times in North Knoxville.

According to police, 47-year-old Clifford E. Clark III of Knoxville was taken into custody early Sunday morning around 2 a.m.

The incident happened on Broadway near 1-640.

Officials say several members of the Knoxville Police Department were patrolling the area when they heard four shots fired.

Shortly after hearing the shots, officers say they noticed Clark's vehicle leaving the area from the back of a closed business.

After pulling Clark over, police say they found a rifle while searching the vehicle.

Police say following the search they noticed the nearby Redflex red light camera had been shot several times.

Three rounds struck the camera, damaging the two still cameras and video equipment.

The damaged equipment has been removed and is being held as evidence.

Clark is charged with felony vandalism and reckless endangerment.
