Former Lady Vols star Mary Ostrowski treated for cancer

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- Former Tennessee women's basketball and West Virginia prep star Mary Ostrowski is being treated for cancer.

A University of Tennessee athletic department spokeswoman says Ostrowski has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

Ostrowski was listed in stable condition Thursday at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

The Pat Summitt recruit led the Lady Vols twice in scoring and three times in rebounding.

During Ostrowski's Tennessee career, the team made three NCAA Final Four appearances. She was inducted into the Lady Vols Hall of Fame in 2006.

She was a three-time West Virginia high school player of the year and the 1980 state Amateur Athlete of the Year.
