Lane Kiffin Lane Kiffin

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Lane Kiffin comes to Tennessee with an enviable football pedigree. He has coached in the college and pro ranks, and is the son of a college and pro coach, Monte Kiffin.

Lane Kiffin was hired at age 31 by the Oakland Raiders, making him the youngest head coach in  National Football League history.

In that tenure he coached 20 games with a 5-15 record for the troubled Raiders before he was fired by owner Al Davis, just four games into the 2008 season.

Before going to the NFL, Kiffin worked under head coach Pete Carroll at the University of Southern California, starting as the tight ends coach in 2001.

Kiffin quickly worked his way up in responsibility at USC, taking over as the wide receivers coach in 2002 and then passing game coordinator in 2004.

In 2005, when Norm Chow left to join the Tennessee Titans, Kiffin was promoted to offensive coordinator, and also held responsibilities as USC's recruiting coordinator.

In his three years as recruiting coordinator, Kiffin's recruiting classes were ranked No. 1 in the country each year. And as offensive coordinator, the Trojans built a 23-3 win-loss record.

Kiffin is a 1994 graduate of  Bloomington (Minn.) Jefferson High School and a 1998 graduate of  Fresno State.

His wife, Layla, is the daughter of John Reaves, a former assistant football coach at the University of Florida. They have two daughters: Landry, 3, and Pressley, 1.

Kiffin's brother, Chris, is a coaching intern at the University of Nebraska.
