CHATTANOOGA (AP) -- The CEO of Volkswagen's planned assembly plant in Chattanooga said Monday the $1 billion project is on schedule and 2011 is still the target for the start of production.

CEO Frank Fischer showed architectural drawings of parts of the plant during a community briefing Monday in Chattanooga.

Volkswagen has projected that the plant will have about 2,000 employees and numerous other related jobs are expected to be created by suppliers to the plant.

Fischer also announced that VW's new manufacturing company has been organized as Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations.

He said ground will be broken for the plant in March.
