State career center at Cleveland closes

CLEVELAND (AP) -- State labor officials say the closing of the Southeast Tennessee Career Center at Cleveland is part of a cost-cutting consolidation that started two years ago.
Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development spokesman Jeff Hentschel told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that closing the Cleveland center Wednesday is expected to save about $218,000 a year.
The center has had 200 to 300 clients per week.
The closing means clients in Cleveland are being directed to centers in Athens and Chattanooga.
The 62 remaining centers statewide are used by employers to find workers and by job seekers to get assistance and career information.
