CHATTANOOGA (AP) -- The Tennessee Career Center is pointing job-seeking clients to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Census Bureau's Web site shows jobs out of the local office in Knoxville start at $12 per hour.
Chattanooga center coordinator Andrea Witt said more people than usual for this time of year are looking for work and she is directing them to the Census jobs.
Census office manager Sam Ruble said that right now, the Census Bureau is hiring employees for 10 weeks for what he describes as "address canvassing."
Ruble said that for the 21 counties in East Tennessee covered by his office, it will take about 1,000 people to do that.
