VONORE (WATE) -- Mastercraft Boat Company has laid off 110 employees in Vonore this week, according to a company spokesman.
The cuts are effective immediately and no severance is being given, according to spokesman John Behling. They include employees at the factory and the office in Vonore.
Behling says the jobs are being cut due to the recession and a decline in consumer demand.
Mastercraft makes wakeboards, waterski boats, family style boats and saltwater craft.
Mastercraft still has 200 employees in Vonore. The company had employed up to 560 people there.
The company was founded in 1968 in a Maryville farm's horse barn.
