KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- The first of the four suspects who will stand trial for the kidnapping, rape and murder of a young Knoxville couple has a new start date.
George Thomas is scheduled to go on trial August 11.
The state is seeking the death penalty against Thomas and the other three suspects, Lemaricus Davidson, Letalvis Cobbins and Vanessa Coleman.
They're accused of a carjacking that ended in the murders of Channon Christian, 21, and her boyfriend, Christopher Newsom, in January 2007.
Thomas' trial date was set after Judge Richard Baumgartner granted a request made in April for a speedy trial.
Thomas is due back in court for a motions hearing on June 25.
The trial dates was also set Thursday for Lemaricus Davison. It's scheduled to begin on June 22, 2009.
The dates of the other two suspects' trials were set previously and remain the same.
A fifth suspect connected to the case, Eric Boyd, was convicted in federal court in April of being an accessory.
