KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- A driver was cited Tuesday morning for hitting two workers helping install a red light camera on Broadway near the intersection with Interstate 640.

Police cited Eric Whitehead, 23, of Knoxville, for careless driving.

Whitehead was driving a 1992 Oldsmobile Regency northbound on Broadway when he hit Austin Randen, 20, of Dayton, and Johnathan Crowley, 21, of Clinton. Both men work for Nabco Electric, out of Chattanooga.

At 10:06 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a car hitting two pedestrians on Broadway.

Police say Randen and Crowley were trying to get onto the median that separates the north and southbound lanes of Broadway when they were hit.

The workers were wearing their reflective, safety vests. The area was also marked as a construction zone with workers present.

Police say Randen and Crowley were taken to UT Medical Center for treatment.

Randen was released Tuesday afternoon.
