GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

Government Shutdown

On October 1, 2013, Congress was unable to reach a funding agreement, leading to a wide-reaching government shutdown that included the closure of national parks and furloughs.

Both houses of Congress passed a bipartisan bill on October 17 to keep the government funded until January and to raise the debt ceiling until February or March. President Obama signed the bill shortly thereafter.
