National Doughnut Day celebrates with deals

WATE 6 On Your Side Staff - KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Sometimes a bagel will not do. This is when many people reach for a doughnut. Friday is National Doughnut Day and there are multiple businesses in East Tennessee celebrating.

According to Krispy Kreme, the first day honoring the treat was started in 1938 by The Salvation Army. It was created to honor women who gave doughnuts to soldiers in World War I.

Dunkin' Donuts

The food chain will be giving out one free doughnut to customers with the purchase of a beverage. Customers can choose any doughnut, except for the "Croissant Donut."

Tom + Chee

The grilled cheese company will be offering $2 "Classic Grilled Cheese Donut" during the day. Also, customers can buy the "Fancy Grilled Cheese Donuts" for $4.

Krispy Kreme

The chain known for their hot glazed doughnuts will be offering one free doughnut of any kind. Also, customers can donate to The Salvation Army at each location.


Customers will receive a free doughnut from the Knoxville shop. Also, if customers would like to receive free doughnuts for a year, they can post a photo on Facebook or Instagram to enter a contest. Only photos with the hashtag "#makersdonuts" will be eligible. The contest is from June 3-6.

Customers will receive one free doughnut from the Knoxville shop at 7044 Kingston Pike. The business is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
