Forklift operator who hit power line electrocuted

NASHVILLE (AP) -- A 24-year-old man was killed in south Nashville after he accidentally hit an electrical line with a forklift.

Nashville Fire Department Acting District Chief Tom Shadwick told WKRN-TV that 24-year-old Brandon Walker of Cheatham County was moving a large tarp into a dumpster on Friday when he hit a power line.

Shadwick said the victim was not killed until he jumped to the ground. Officials speculate the forklift's tires were on fire and the man jumped down to try to put them out. A fire extinguisher was lying on the ground beside him.

The incident temporarily knocked out power to area homes and businesses.
